S.W.A.T. Fast Pitch Philosophy
Why are you here?
Let's be honest. You are here for at least one of the following reasons.
- You are not getting the level of play and discipline desired at the rec level
- Your daughter is standing out a bit among her peer group on the softball field
- Your daughter strives to compete and win while playing
- Your daughter likes to be around other girls with similar skillsets (challenged!)
- Your current travel team STILL isn't meeting your needs
Basically if you find yourself dissatisfied with your softball program no matter what level, you'll always look for "more". With that in mind, softball and baseball are unique. While they are team sports, there are huge individual elements to the game. Individual instruction at any level is the key to overall team success. There will be a huge emphasis on individual instruction here at S.W.A.T. Each player will have multiple 1 on 1 sessions in order to provide "more" of...
- Make absolutely certain the basics and fundamentals of the game are drilled over and over
- Improve on weak areas of their game
- Provide a comfortable 1 on 1 setting
- Allow for numerous repetitions which is the key to creating new habits
- Avoid paying instructors for different parts of your game (batting, fielding, etc.)
Individual instruction is where rec and travel programs are lacking. From education to parenting to athletic instruction, 1 on 1 time is critical to expanding skillsets and making large improvements quickly. It is nearly impossible to work with a player individually for more than a few minutes when the whole team is at practice. This SHOULD be part of the entry fee with travel teams but in most cases it's not. This will be one of the priorities here.
The majority of the individual instruction will take place over the winter months. Once everyone has worked on their swings, improved their throwing accuracy and rounded out their glove work, the team should be ready to come together in the spring and demonstrate all the new skills learned in the "off season". Working on offensive and defensive strategies is much easier when everyone has a SOLID grasp on the basics of the game.
Building a Team!
Another major element of the S.W.A.T. philosophy is chemistry. Team success hinges on chemistry from both players and parents. We want to have the most cohesive unit possible from top to bottom, kid to parent. Here are some things to consider before you tryout for a S.W.A.T. roster position.
S.W.A.T. is for you if:
- You are committed to in-season play (late February through July)
- You are receptive to teaching/coaching
- You want to be challenged and learn new techniques
- You understand creating the best “team” means sacrificing your individual wants and needs for the better of the team
- You are attentive and want to maximize your playing and practice time
- You love to play and wish you could play all the time
- You are willing to make your S.W.A.T. team a priority
S.W.A.T. might not be for you if:
- You participate in multiple activities during the softball season interfering with your attendance at practice and games (late February through July)
- Constructive criticism makes you feel overwhelmed or singled out
- You are not happy unless you play “your position”
- You want to be elsewhere while participating in practice or games
- You are doing this for "something to do" or your "parents made you"
- You would prefer to play a different sport while playing or practicing softball
In conclusion, we are looking for players who work hard, love to get out and play, love to compete and are committed to making this the best experience they can.
If the parameters listed above appeal to you, get in touch to schedule a tryout.
